I’ve recently worked on a couple of animation projects. The first one is for Odyssey. They’re celebrating 40 years of BMX with a Vans shoe collaboration. For the promo they wanted to revisit some of their classic animations done by Jim Bauer. I was asked to replicate Jim’s style and that proved to be a very interesting project. I studied his pen strokes on his old animations and tried my best to mimic it in this promo. It ended up being a LOT of drawing but the result came out pretty cool.

After finishing the Odyssey X Vans project I made this short of Mike Aitken. Watching Mikey ride in person was astounding. I’ve never seen another rider who could hang in the air so long. It seemed like he slowed down time. In this animation I tried to capture some of that and be a little more free with my line work than I was in the Odyssey project. This short is 120 drawings of an Aitken clip from Stew Johnson’s Anthem II video.
