Howdy, I’m Taj. And yes, that’s my real name–my mom was a hippie.

I rode BMX professionally, was once world champion in dirt jumping, held my own on street and ramps, made up a few new things to do on a bike, and had the opportunity to get to know people all over the world. I also got to work with some great brands and even had a handful of signature products. When my name landed on shoes, bikes, tires, and grips, I insisted on being part of the design process. I think that was a big part of learning to enjoy conceptualizing ideas and then helping to make them a reality.
During my BMX days, I co-founded the Terrible One bike company. Designing bikes and making zines was great, but running a business was not for me. Later, a back surgery pushed me to retire from riding professionally. I made it almost 20 years as a pro and am happy to have come out still able to enjoy bikes (even if I do have to moderate my riding).

Luckily, I found a new use for my creativity in drawing. Illustrating, animating, and goofy cartoons have become passions that give me endless enjoyment. I’ve gotten to work for a number of great brands and media, including PinkBike, Outside Magazine, Bicycling Magazine, Vans, Ride, Dig, Anthill Films, Redbull and many others.
Back in 2010, I was able to start Fairdale Bikes (where I am the brand manager) with the same folks who I was sponsored by at Odyssey BMX.
I’ve published a few kids’ books on my own. The stories seem to form in my head whether I want them to or not. Eventually, they become so clear that I have to sit down and write/ draw them. I have so many more in mind–I just need to find the time.
Nowadays, I BMX once in a blue moon, but mostly ride the bikes that Fairdale makes. Riding is still a huge love of mine, whether it is pedaling around a new country or hitting old man jumps in the woods on a mountain bike, I’m happy.
This site is sporadically updated with my work, adventures, and whatever I’ve got going on.
Think Up Good Things and Make Them Real,
Taj
